Bayonne occupies a narrow peninsula at the southern tip of Hudson County, with Newark Bay on one side and New York Harbor on the other. Its residential streets are lined with two and three-family homes, many with stucco, brick or siding fronts, small front yards and steps leading up to raised first floors. Being surrounded by water on three sides also means wind, moisture and salt are part of daily life for every exterior surface in town.
Front steps and porches

Most Bayonne houses sit a few feet above the sidewalk, so nearly every home has a set of front steps, and many two-families have a second set at the side. Concrete steps here crack, spall at the edges and lose their railings to rust. We rebuild concrete steps on new footings and finish them in plain concrete, brick or stone veneer, often with new porch bases and columns so the whole entry looks new.
Stucco walls and foundations
Stucco is everywhere in Bayonne, on full facades, side walls and foundation parging. Over time it cracks, bulges and lets water in behind the surface. Our stucco services cover patching, refinishing whole walls and applying new stucco over sound masonry. We match texture as closely as we can so repairs do not stand out.
Concrete that can be restored
Not every slab needs to be torn out. Walkways, porches and patios with a worn or scaled surface but a sound base can be resurfaced. Sidewalks lifted by tree roots or broken by age are a different story. Those squares need to be removed and poured new to meet city standards, which we handle from forms to finish.
Basements near the water
Low-lying parts of the peninsula sit close to sea level, and a high water table pushes moisture into basements. Old foundation cracks and failed joints at the base of the walls are frequent entry points. We look at downspouts, grading and the foundation before recommending basement waterproofing, and we are honest about the difference between groundwater seepage and storm surge.
Compact backyards
Rear yards in Bayonne tend to be small. A paver patio or side walkway on a well-compacted base gives you a clean outdoor space and keeps runoff moving away from the house.
A side walkway is often the better first project. Many homes have a strip of cracked concrete or bare soil between the house and the property line, and replacing it with a pitched walk protects the foundation and makes trash day easier.
Before you schedule
- City approvals. Steps, porch foundations and sidewalk work can need a permit. We check with the building department.
- Neighbors on both sides. Narrow side yards mean we coordinate access with the house next door.
- Choose durable railings. In salt air, aluminum or properly coated steel railings last longer.
