Middlesex County sits between North Jersey and the Shore, and its housing reflects that. Most of Edison, Woodbridge, Piscataway, East Brunswick, Old Bridge and Sayreville filled in during the decades after World War II, with capes, ranches, split-levels and colonials on regular suburban lots. Older brick and frame homes line the streets of New Brunswick, Highland Park, Perth Amboy, Metuchen and South River. Both kinds of houses now share the same problem: concrete and masonry that has reached the end of its life.
Projects Middlesex County homeowners ask about most

Driveways. Original concrete and asphalt driveways from the 1950s through the 1980s are cracked, settled and patched. We remove the old surface, rebuild the base and pour new concrete driveways or install pavers, with the apron done to your town’s specs.
Front steps and stoops. Precast and poured stoops on postwar homes tend to settle and pull away from the foundation. We replace them with poured concrete, brick or block steps with stone veneer, and new railings sized to code.
Backyard patios. Suburban backyards here are a good size for a patio but rarely huge. A paver patio laid out to fit the yard gives you outdoor space that stays flat and drains well, with room for a grill or a fire pit.
Repointing and brick repair. In New Brunswick and Perth Amboy, older brick fronts, chimneys and foundation walls often have mortar worn back past the face of the brick. Repointing keeps water out and the wall solid.
Waterproofing. Lower areas near the Raritan, the South River and local streams can push water into basements. Good grading, working gutters and a proper waterproofing plan are often worth handling before any new patio or walkway is built against the house.
Things to know before you build
- Towns set their own rules. Edison, Woodbridge and New Brunswick each have their own building and engineering departments. Driveway widths, apron details and sidewalk specs vary, and we confirm them before pricing.
- Sidewalk responsibility. In many Middlesex towns the homeowner maintains the public sidewalk. If yours is lifted or cracked, we can replace it when we do the driveway so the finish matches.
- Plan drainage with the design. A new driveway or patio changes where rainwater goes. We slope surfaces away from the house and keep water from collecting at the foundation or running onto a neighbor’s lot.
- Rental and multi-family properties. If you own a rental in New Brunswick or another older town, we can plan work around tenants and keep entrances usable while steps or walks are replaced.
- Book ahead for spring. Concrete needs above-freezing weather to cure well, and spring fills up fast. An estimate in late winter keeps your project near the front of the line.
