Sayreville covers a lot of ground along the south bank of the Raritan River, and the borough’s history in clay and brickmaking is a reminder of what lies under many yards. Housing ranges from older homes near the river and the borough’s original sections to postwar capes and ranches and newer colonials on larger lots. Soil, water and yard size all shape the work we do here.
Pool decks and backyard patios

Many Sayreville backyards have in-ground pools, and the decks around them take heavy wear from water, chemicals and sun. We build paver and stamped concrete pool decks with slip resistant finishes, and replace coping and surrounding masonry through our pool masonry work. For yards without a pool, a large paver patio with a soldier course border gives you a place to cook and gather.
Building on clay
Heavier soils in parts of the borough hold water and heave in winter. That is why we put extra effort into:
- digging out soft soil and replacing it with compacted stone
- adding base depth under driveways and patios
- pitching every surface away from foundations
- planning where downspouts and runoff will go
Driveways that have seen better days
Driveways on postwar homes in town often have the same problems: cracks, settled sections and broken aprons. We replace them in concrete, asphalt or pavers on a rebuilt base, and widen them when there is room.
Water near the river
Low areas close to the Raritan and along local creeks can see high water during major storms, and flood zone rules may apply. In basements, water can come through cracks, the floor joint or from poor grading outside. We look at all three before recommending basement waterproofing. On sloped lots, a short retaining wall can also redirect surface water.
