Hunterdon County is the most rural part of our service area, and the work reflects it. Stone farmhouses and bank barns dot the townships around Readington, Tewksbury and the Amwells. Estate properties sit on long, rolling lots. And the river towns along the Delaware, from Frenchtown down through Stockton and Lambertville, along with the county seat of Flemington, hold historic downtowns with homes that are well over a century old.
The work Hunterdon County properties call for

Stone walls and stone repair. Fieldstone walls, stone foundations and old stone chimneys are part of the landscape here. We repoint loose joints, rebuild collapsed sections with matching stone, and add new stone masonry that looks like it belongs next to the old.
Foundations on older homes and barns. Rubble and fieldstone foundations weaken as mortar washes out and water works through the walls. Our foundation repair work covers repointing, rebuilding failing sections and new footings for additions, porches and outbuildings.
Patios, walkways and fire features. Bigger lots give room for a bluestone or paver patio, a stone fire pit and walkways that connect the house to gardens and outbuildings. We plan each piece around the slope and drainage of the property.
Retaining walls and steps. Rolling ground near Clinton, High Bridge, Califon and Lebanon often needs terracing. Natural stone or segmental walls create level areas, and stone steps tie the levels together.
Soil, water and rural site conditions
Much of Hunterdon sits on clay and shale. These soils hold water and drain slowly, and when that water freezes it can lift slabs, pavers and steps. We build a deeper, free-draining gravel base, pitch surfaces correctly and plan where runoff goes, so the work stays level.
Rural sites also bring wells and septic systems. Before we design anything, we locate the well, tank and field, keep excavation and heavy equipment away from them, and leave access to the tank where it is needed. Long driveways and soft lawns can also affect how we bring in material, so we plan access during the estimate visit.
Historic towns and permits
Lambertville has a Historic Preservation Commission, and Flemington, Frenchtown and other older towns include historic areas. If your home is in one, exterior masonry, steps and walkways may need review. We can provide photos, drawings and material samples for your application and choose materials, like bluestone and natural stone, that fit older homes.
Outside those districts, each township runs its own building department, and rules for walls, steps and driveway work vary. We check what your municipality requires before work starts.
Scheduling Hunterdon County projects
Our offices are in Garfield and Hawthorne, so Hunterdon is one of the farther counties we cover. We schedule work in the county on a regular basis and group estimates and projects to keep things moving. Because masonry needs warm weather to cure well, booking your estimate in winter or early spring is the best way to secure a good start date.
