Brick front steps with light stone treads at a white colonial home

Lebanon Borough is a small municipality in central Hunterdon County, sitting just off Route 22 with Clinton Township on most sides. It is not the same as Lebanon Township, a much larger rural township to the northwest. The borough has an older center with homes from the 1800s and early 1900s along its main streets, plus later neighborhoods of colonials, ranches and split levels on modest suburban lots.

That mix gives Lebanon two kinds of projects: careful repair on the older houses and practical updates on the newer ones. Either way, the front entry is where most jobs start.

Front steps and entries

Steps on both old and newer homes take the brunt of winter salt and frost. Concrete treads crack, brick loosens and the whole set can settle away from the house. We rebuild front steps on a solid footing in brick, stone veneer or poured concrete, often with bluestone or stone treads and new railings. On colonial style homes, brick risers with light stone treads give a clean, classic look.

Walkways to match

Straight paver front walkway with charcoal border leading to a colonial home

A new walkway in pavers or bluestone completes the entry. We take out the old walk, lay a compacted base and build walkways that meet the steps at the right height. Where an old concrete walk is still sound, resurfacing can be an option.

Brick and older masonry

The older homes in the center of the borough often have brick foundations, chimneys or facades that need repointing. We remove worn mortar and repoint with a mix that suits the brick, and we rebuild chimney tops and crowns where water is getting in.

Backyard patios

Suburban lots in the borough are a good size for a paver patio with a short walkway, a seating wall or a fire pit. We grade the patio away from the house and build the base deep enough for Hunterdon’s heavy clay.

FAQ

Lebanon, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Is this page for Lebanon Borough or Lebanon Township?

This page covers Lebanon Borough, the small town near Route 22. Lebanon Township is a separate, larger and more rural municipality in northern Hunterdon with its own building department. We serve both.

Our front walk and steps are both cracked. Should we replace them together?

Usually yes. Doing both at once means one design, one base and matching materials, and the walkway can be pitched properly to the new bottom step.

Can a small backyard still fit a patio and fire pit?

Yes. A compact paver patio with a small fire pit or a built-in seating wall works well on borough lots. We plan the layout so there is still room to walk around it.
