Lebanon Township is a large municipality in northern Hunterdon County, covering a stretch of the New Jersey Highlands between the South Branch of the Raritan and the Musconetcong valley. It is wooded and hilly, with homes spread along winding roads on lots of an acre or more. Housing runs from old farmhouses and stone homes to post-war ranches and capes and larger houses from the 1980s onward. It is a separate municipality from Lebanon Borough to the southeast.
Highlands ground is rocky. Lebanon Township soils are full of cobbles and boulders, slopes are steep in places, and old stone walls from cleared fields still run through the woods.
Stone walls and stone-edged walkways

Stone is the natural choice here, and many owners already have some on site. We rebuild old field walls, build new stone masonry garden walls and front walls, and pair them with walkways in bluestone, pavers or stamped concrete with a stone pattern. Stamped concrete gives a stone look at a lower cost than real flagstone, though natural stone wears in more gracefully over time.
Driveways on hills
Long, steep driveways are standard in the township, and they take a beating from runoff and plows. When we rebuild a driveway, we start with water: where it comes from, where it crosses and where it should go. Then we build a deep base and pitch the surface so it drains to the side instead of down the middle.
Walls for sloped yards
Steep yards need terracing to be usable. We build segmental block and natural stone retaining walls with drainage behind them, and work around boulders and ledge we find during the dig.
Damp basements on hillsides
Houses set into a slope often take water on the uphill side. Grading, downspout extensions and foundation repair solve many cases before full waterproofing is needed.
What sets a Lebanon Township job apart
- Rock in nearly every excavation
- Runoff from the slopes above the house
- Narrow wooded drives that limit equipment
- Wells and septic on almost every lot
The boroughs of Califon and Glen Gardner both border the township. See our Hunterdon County page, or request a free estimate for your wall, walk or driveway.
