Hampton is a small borough in northern Hunterdon County, not to be confused with Hampton Township up in Sussex County. It grew as a railroad town, and its streets are lined with modest older homes: two story frame houses, bungalows and capes on narrow to medium lots, with a sprinkling of newer houses. The terrain is gently rolling, with the Musconetcong valley nearby.
Homes like these do not need elaborate hardscape. They need solid steps, a driveway that drains, a walkway that is not a trip hazard, and a foundation that stays dry. That is where most of our Hampton work lands.
Rebuilding front steps
Steps on older houses are usually the first thing to go. Brick loosens, concrete treads crack, and the whole set can lean away from the house as the footing settles. We take them down to the base and build new brick or concrete steps on a footing below frost. Bluestone treads and new railings finish the job.
Driveways and walks

Many Hampton driveways are narrow strips of concrete or asphalt beside the house, often with a cracked apron and water draining toward the foundation. When we replace a driveway, we rebuild the base, pitch it away from the house and pour or pave a surface sized to the lot. A matching walkway from the drive to the front door often gets done at the same time.
Foundation cracks and block walls
Older poured and block foundations in the borough show their age with cracks and damp spots. Most cracks are not structural, but they still let water in. We seal and repair cracks, repoint block walls and fix the drainage outside so less water reaches the wall to begin with.
Small borough logistics
- Narrow lots mean careful staging and short delivery windows
- The borough building department handles step and driveway approvals
- Work at the sidewalk or curb may have its own requirements
- Mild weather gives the best curing, so book ahead for spring
