Franklin Township is one of several New Jersey townships with that name. This one is in central Hunterdon County, a small, mostly rural municipality of farms, woodlots and homes set on generous parcels between Flemington and Clinton. The village of Quakertown sits within it. Houses range from old farmhouses and converted outbuildings to newer homes on multi-acre lots, almost all served by private wells and septic.
Life on these properties is practical, and so are most of the projects. People want a good patio near the kitchen, solid steps, a reliable pad for a shed or generator, and old masonry that stops leaking.
Patios with a country feel

A formal patio is not the only option. Many Franklin Township owners prefer a paver or bluestone patio at the back door with gravel areas and stepping stones that lead to the garden, coop or vegetable beds. It drains well, costs less than paving everything, and looks at home on a farm. We build patios and walkways with a deep stone base to stand up to clay soils and frost.
Concrete pads and practical slabs
Rural properties use a lot of concrete: pads for sheds and generators, aprons at barn doors, walks to outbuildings and porch slabs. We form and pour each one to suit its load and drainage. Where an old slab has worn or scaled but is still sound, concrete resurfacing can give it a new surface without tearing it out.
Steps and foundations on older houses
Farmhouse steps and stoops tend to settle over the years. We rebuild them on footings below frost in concrete, brick or stone veneer. Old stone and block foundations get repointing, crack repair and drainage fixes, and we pour new footings for porches and additions.
Notes for rural Franklin Township lots
- Wells and septic are marked and protected before digging.
- Deliveries may come in smaller loads on long or soft lanes.
- Runoff from fields and barn roofs gets routed around new work.
- Seasons. Concrete and mortar cure best in mild weather, so book early.
