West Amwell Township lies in the southwestern corner of Hunterdon County, wrapping around the small city of Lambertville and running up into wooded hills and farmland. It is a quiet, rural township. Homes range from old farmhouses and stone houses to mid-century homes and newer country houses on several acres, set along winding roads with long driveways. Almost all depend on wells and septic.
The ground here is rocky in the hills and heavy with shale and clay in the fields, both of which drain slowly. That shapes nearly every patio, step and foundation project in the township.
Patios and steps at the back door

Country homes often have a back door that steps out onto grass or a sinking slab. We build a patio at the right height with wide stone-faced steps that wrap the corner of the house, making the transition from inside to outside easy. Because the soils hold water, every patio gets a thick, free-draining base and a pitch away from the foundation.
Front steps and walks
Steps that climb from a driveway to a front porch take a lot of winter abuse. We rebuild concrete steps on footings below frost and finish them in stone veneer, brick or concrete with bluestone treads. Walkways in pavers, bluestone or stamped concrete connect the steps back to the drive.
Farmhouse foundations and stucco
Older West Amwell homes often have stone foundations covered in parging or stucco that has cracked over the years. We remove loose coatings, repair and repoint the stone underneath and refinish the wall. Bigger exterior jobs can include full stucco refinishing to match the house.
Rural project notes
- Long lanes. We plan where trucks can reach and turn around.
- Septic and wells. Marked and protected before digging starts.
- Rocky hillsides. Excavation can hit rock, so we probe early.
- Drainage. Slow-draining soils need deeper bases and planned runoff.
West Amwell surrounds much of Lambertville and borders East Amwell. Find more towns on our Hunterdon County page, or book a free estimate to plan your project.
