Roselle Park is a small borough in central Union County, near Union, Kenilworth, Cranford and Roselle, with a rail line running through town. It is one of the more densely built suburbs in the county. Homes are mostly colonials, Cape Cods, foursquares and two-family houses from the early and middle 1900s, set on narrow lots with the driveway alongside the house. The ground is flat and the houses are close together.
Side and rear entries
On many Roselle Park homes, the side door is the one the family uses every day. It usually opens onto the driveway with a short run of concrete or brick steps that have cracked, settled or pulled away from the house. We rebuild them as concrete steps with brick, stone or bluestone finishes and add a railing that does not crowd the driveway.
Walks between houses

Narrow side yards often hold a strip of old concrete that is cracked, tilted toward one house or broken by roots. We replace these with new concrete or paver walkways pitched away from both foundations. When the slab is sound but the surface has scaled, resurfacing can be a lower-cost option.
Patios on compact lots
The backyard in Roselle Park is usually small and often shares space with a detached garage. A paver patio that starts at the back steps and runs to the garage can turn leftover space into a real outdoor room. Pavers handle the slow drainage of flat ground well when laid on a properly compacted base.
Driveways and brick
Single-lane driveways see heavy use and often crack at the street end. We replace them in concrete or asphalt. Brick on older chimneys and foundations gets repointed or rebuilt where it has loosened.
Before you call
- Measure the driveway at its narrowest point next to the house.
- Photograph cracked steps or walks and where water pools.
- Ask the borough whether your project needs a permit.
