Totowa is a compact borough along the Passaic River, with Route 46 and Interstate 80 cutting through and quiet residential streets on either side. Most homes are capes, ranches and split-levels built in the middle of the last century, and many still have their original concrete steps, walks and driveways. After decades of New Jersey winters, that concrete is usually what homeowners want fixed first.
Front steps and porches

On a ranch or cape, the front steps are a big part of how the house looks from the street. Original concrete steps often show cracked treads, spalled edges and loose railings, and some have tipped away from the foundation. We rebuild concrete steps on new footings, then finish them in plain concrete, brick or stone veneer. A wider landing or a refreshed porch can make a small entry feel much more welcoming.
Driveways and walkways
Totowa driveways are often short and narrow, and the slab takes daily wear from cars, plows and salt. When the surface is breaking up or the apron has sunk, replacement is usually more sensible than patching. We install concrete and asphalt driveways on a compacted base with the right pitch so water heads to the street.
Front and side walkways get the same care. A new walk poured to the right slope keeps water off the foundation and gives you a safe path from the driveway to the door.
If you prefer a dressier look, we can border a concrete driveway with pavers or replace the whole thing with an interlocking paver surface. Pavers cost more up front than plain concrete, but individual units can be lifted and reset if a section ever settles, which makes future repairs simpler.
Repairs, patios and foundations
Not every slab needs to come out. If concrete is sound but worn or scaled, resurfacing can restore it. If you want something new out back, we build patios in pavers, poured concrete or stamped concrete sized for the yard.
Homes near the river can see damp basements after heavy storms. Our foundation and waterproofing work covers crack sealing, foundation repair and drainage improvements.
Good to know first
- Repair or replace. We will be straight with you about whether your concrete can be saved.
- Borough approvals. Steps, aprons and walls can need a permit. We check before work starts.
- Mind the railings. Older steel railings often rust at the base. Replacing them during a step rebuild gives them a solid new anchor.
- Plan the order. If you want new steps and a new driveway, doing both in one project keeps the finished grades consistent.
- Curing time. New concrete needs several days before you drive or walk on it heavily, so plan around that.
