Hightstown is a compact borough completely surrounded by East Windsor Township, with Peddie Lake and the Peddie School close to its center. Its streets hold a good share of older housing: Victorian and early twentieth century homes with deep front porches, foursquares, and modest frame houses, many with brick chimneys and brick or stone foundations. Lots are smaller and more town-like than in the surrounding township, and the ground is mostly level. Older houses with porches and chimneys set the agenda for most of the masonry work here.
Porches and front steps
A front porch on an older Hightstown home usually sits on brick piers with a run of steps up to it. Over time those steps crack, settle and drift away from the porch, and the piers can lose mortar. We rebuild porch steps in brick, stone or concrete, top them with bluestone, and repoint the piers so the whole entrance is solid. Pro One also handles porch framing and roofing when those need attention.
Chimneys and older brick

Chimneys on older houses take the worst of the weather. Cracked crowns, missing mortar and loose top courses let water inside. Our chimney masonry work includes crown replacement and partial rebuilds. On older walls and foundations we repoint with mortar that is compatible with soft historic brick, which avoids the cracking that hard cement mortar can cause.
Walks and small yards
Narrow front walks and modest backyards are common. We replace broken concrete walks with brick, bluestone or pavers to suit the house, and build small patios on a proper base.
Good to know before you start
- Separate borough. Hightstown has its own building department, distinct from East Windsor.
- Older homes can surprise. Removing old steps sometimes reveals buried footings or earlier work. We explain options before going further.
- Material choices. Brick and bluestone usually look right on older facades.
