Pennington is a small borough set inside Hopewell Township, with a compact downtown and residential streets lined with mature trees. Its housing leans older: nineteenth and early twentieth century homes with front porches, along with mid-century houses and some newer infill. The Pennington School is also in the borough. Lots are modest, front yards are close to the sidewalk and the ground is mostly level. Here, the front walk, steps and porch shape the whole look of a house from the street.
Front walks with character
A front walk is often the first project on a Pennington house. Old slate, brick or concrete walks heave around tree roots and crack after years of frost. We rebuild walkways on a compacted base and pick materials that suit the home: bluestone or brick for older houses, pavers or a stone-pattern stamped concrete walk where a lower-maintenance surface is wanted. Root zones of street trees get extra planning.
Steps and porch entries

Porch steps on older homes often settle away from the porch or crumble at the treads. We rebuild them in brick, stone or concrete with bluestone treads and code-height railings, sized to match the porch. Pro One also offers porch framing and roofing, so a tired entry can be rebuilt as a single project.
Brick and stone upkeep
Old chimneys, brick foundations and stone walls need repointing as mortar wears away. On older homes we use mortar suited to the existing masonry so repairs do not damage soft brick, and we reset loose stone in garden walls.
A few notes before you start
- Separate borough. Pennington has its own building department, distinct from Hopewell Township.
- Historic character. Some streets may fall under historic district rules. We check before design is final.
- Trees. Mature trees are part of the town’s look, so we plan walks around their roots.
