Robbinsville is a township in eastern Mercer County that was known as Washington Township until it changed its name. Not long ago it was mostly farmland, and much of its housing is recent: two-story colonials and larger homes in planned developments, plus the townhouses and apartments of the Town Center, with some older farmhouses and homes along the original roads. The land is flat to gently rolling, with soils that were worked as fields for generations. Since builders usually leave a basic patio or none at all, homeowners here often want to finish the backyard.
Upgrading the builder’s backyard

A small concrete pad or a few steps off the back door is common in newer developments. A paver patio sized for real use, with a border, steps and a walkway around the side of the house, turns a bare yard into a finished space. On flat lots we set a deliberate pitch so water moves away from the foundation and does not pool in the middle.
Fire pits, fireplaces and pool decks
Many Robbinsville homeowners want a gathering spot. A built-in fire pit or outdoor fireplace gives a patio a focal point and stretches the season into fall. For yards with pools, we build decks in pavers or stamped concrete and install coping that ties the pool into the rest of the hardscape.
Driveways and front steps
Builder-grade driveways and stoops start to show cracks and settling after the first decade or so. We replace driveways in pavers, concrete or asphalt, and rebuild front steps on a proper footing with stone veneer, bluestone treads or brick that complements the facade.
Before you plan
- HOA rules. Many developments have guidelines for materials and placement.
- Township permits. Patios over a certain size, pool areas and driveways may need approval.
- Utilities and irrigation. Newer homes often have sprinkler lines; we locate them before digging.
