West Windsor Township lies just east of Princeton, and many of its neighborhoods carry the Princeton Junction name thanks to the busy train station there. The township was mostly farmland well into the twentieth century, and the bulk of its homes were built from the 1970s on: two-story colonials and larger contemporary houses on generous suburban lots, plus some townhouse communities and older homes in sections like Dutch Neck. The ground is flat and the soils are easy to dig, so outdoor projects here are less about fighting terrain and more about design, scale and drainage.

Large patios done right

West Windsor backyards have room for a patio that does more than hold a grill. Many homeowners want separate dining and lounge areas, a seating wall, a fire pit, and steps down from a deck or slider. We design paver patios at that scale with borders, inlays and curves that suit the house. On flat ground, a large hard surface needs a carefully planned slope and outlet so water does not end up in the basement or the middle of the lawn.

Walkways and side paths

Big lots mean longer distances: from the driveway to the back gate, from the patio to a shed or garden. Our patios and walkways connect those spaces in pavers or bluestone, often with a gentle curve and lighting along the edge.

Entries and driveways

On many colonials from the 1980s and 1990s, the front stoop and walk are original concrete that has cracked or settled. We rebuild entries with stacked stone or brick, bluestone landings and new steps that match the scale of a two-story facade. Wide driveways get replaced in concrete, asphalt or pavers with a solid base.

Before you get started

  • HOA communities. Some developments review exterior changes, so check first.
  • Township permits. Larger patios, driveways and walls may need approval and can count toward lot coverage.
  • Irrigation lines. Sprinkler systems are common, so we mark and protect them.

West Windsor borders Lawrence Township, Robbinsville and Princeton. We cover all of Mercer County. Schedule a free estimate to plan your project.

FAQ

West Windsor, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Our West Windsor yard is completely flat. How do you keep a big patio from flooding?

We build in a slight pitch, usually away from the house toward lawn or a planting bed, and we check where the yard naturally drains. On larger patios we sometimes add a drain or a gravel trench at the low edge.

Can you add lighting to a patio and walkway?

Yes. Low-voltage lights can be set into steps, seating walls and walk edges. The wiring is easiest to run while the patio is being built, so plan it from the start.

Is Princeton Junction part of West Windsor?

Yes. Princeton Junction is a section of West Windsor Township, so permits there go through the township, not Princeton.
