Wantage Township covers a big piece of northern Sussex County. It is farm country, with dairy and crop fields, horse farms and woodland, and it surrounds Sussex Borough, which has its own government. Homes range from old farmhouses with barns to rural ranches and newer houses on lots of several acres. Distance shapes most projects here: long driveways, outbuildings set away from the house and plenty of open ground exposed to wind and snow.
Driveways that survive a Wantage winter
A rural driveway takes heavy plows, delivery trucks and sometimes farm equipment, and it freezes deep each winter. When the base is thin or water runs down the middle, it breaks up fast. We rebuild with a deeper, compacted stone base, shape the surface to throw water to the sides and add culverts where a drive crosses a low spot. Our driveway options include asphalt for long runs and concrete or pavers near the house, where turning traffic is heaviest.
Slabs, aprons and walks

Rural properties need a lot of concrete beyond the house: garage aprons, shed and equipment pads, walks between buildings and patios off the kitchen. We pour them on compacted bases with control joints sized to the slab. Where an existing slab is level but worn, concrete repair and resurfacing can restore it without a full tear-out.
Farmhouse foundations and old stone
Many farmhouses sit on fieldstone or early block foundations. Look for open joints, bulging sections and water seeping in at the base. We repoint, rebuild and correct grading so water drains away. Old stone walls along fields and the road edge can be rebuilt using their own stone.
Planning on a big property
- Mark the well, septic and any buried lines to barns or outbuildings.
- Note which vehicles use each part of the drive.
- Show us where water runs and ponds in spring.
- Decide which projects come first if the list is long.
