Bridgewater is one of the largest towns in Somerset County, and most of its homes sit in established subdivisions on good sized lots. The northern part of the township rises into the Watchung hills, while much of the rest is gentler ground. Many backyards here still have the original builder patio or a deck that is near the end of its life, and plenty have nothing at all. That makes Bridgewater a natural fit for outdoor living projects.
Patios planned around how you live

A good patio starts with how you will use it. Dining for eight, a lounge area, a grill station and a path to the pool or garden each need their own space. We design paver patios with zones for each use, borders to frame them and steps that connect to the back door or deck. Low step lights and seating walls make the space usable after dark. We can lay out the design with paint or stakes on the lawn so you can see the size before anything is dug.
Under the surface, the base is what makes a patio last. We excavate, compact stone in layers, set edge restraint and pitch the surface so rain moves off and away from the house. Somerset soils can hold water, so we pay close attention to where runoff ends up.
Fireplaces, fire pits and pool surrounds
A stone outdoor fireplace gives a patio a focal point and adds months to the outdoor season. A round fire pit with a seating wall is a lighter option for smaller spaces. For homes with in-ground pools, our pool masonry work covers coping, paver and stamped concrete decks and stone walls around the pool area, with surfaces chosen to stay comfortable underfoot.
Hills on the north side, driveways everywhere
Homes in the hillier northern neighborhoods often need retaining walls to create a flat yard or hold back a bank beside the driveway. Across the township, aging asphalt driveways are another common project. A paver driveway with a contrasting border or a paver apron and walkway changes the look of the whole front of the house.
Before you start in Bridgewater
- Township permits. Patios, walls and outdoor fireplaces can require township approval depending on size and location.
- HOA rules. Many subdivisions review materials, colors and layouts.
- Pool barriers. Work around a pool must keep required fencing and barriers in place.
- Phasing. A large backyard can be built in stages. We plan the full layout first so later phases fit.
