Hackettstown is a compact town in the northeast corner of Warren County, set in the valley of the Musconetcong River and home to Centenary University. Near the center you find older homes on modest lots, many with original stoops, porches and concrete walks. Toward the edges of town and in the surrounding townships, newer subdivisions and townhouse communities have bigger yards and plain concrete patios ready for an upgrade. Pro One Construction handles both kinds of work here.
Backyard patios that get used

The most common request we see in Hackettstown is a better backyard. A builder grade concrete slab is often too small and starting to crack. We replace it with a paver patio sized for real furniture, with a border, a step down from the back door and a walkway to the driveway or gate. Circular layouts, inlays and contrasting borders let you shape the space to the yard instead of just making a rectangle.
The valley floor can stay damp, especially near the river and in low spots. We dig deep enough to reach stable soil, build up a compacted stone base and pitch every surface away from the house. Where a yard collects water after storms, we can add a drain line or a gravel trench along the patio edge so the runoff has a clear path out.
Front walks, steps and driveways
A tired concrete walk and steps make even a nice house look neglected. We pour new walks, build patios and walkways in pavers or bluestone, and rebuild entry steps with new railings. On older homes near downtown, we often pair new steps with repairs to the porch base or foundation behind them.
Driveways are the next project for many homeowners. We replace cracked concrete and asphalt and install paver driveways or paver borders that dress up the front of the house.
Slopes on the edges of town
The ridges that frame the valley mean some neighborhoods sit on sloped lots. A low retaining wall can level a side yard, hold back a bank along the driveway or create a raised patio with steps down to the lawn. We build them with proper drainage so they stay straight through freeze and thaw.
A short checklist
- HOA approval. Many newer developments have associations that review patios, walkways and driveway changes.
- Building department. Walls, steps and driveway aprons may need a permit from the town or township.
- Utility markouts. We arrange markouts before digging, and you should point out private lines like sprinklers or lighting.
- Timing. Spring and fall fill up fast. An estimate in winter gives you more options.
