Mansfield Township sits in the middle of Warren County, between Washington and Hackettstown. It has the older village of Port Murray, plenty of mid to late twentieth century ranches and split levels, and newer colonials in more recent subdivisions. Across those styles one project comes up more than any other: the front entry. Small stoops, shallow porches and short runs of steps take the brunt of frost, snow and foot traffic, and they are the first thing visitors see.
Stoops on ranches and split levels
Many ranches and split levels were built with a small concrete stoop and two or three steps. Over time these slabs sink, crack at the corners or tip toward the house. Patching rarely lasts because the problem is the footing. We remove the old stoop and build new concrete steps on footings below frost, then finish them in brick, stone veneer or clean concrete. A slightly wider landing makes the entry feel more generous without changing the house.
Porches with a roof

Some owners want more than a stoop. A covered front porch keeps snow off the steps and adds real curb appeal to a plain facade. We build the masonry base and steps, and our crews also take on porch framing and roofing, so one team handles the whole entry. Stone veneer columns or a veneered porch skirt tie the new porch to the rest of the house.
Village houses in Port Murray
Older homes in the village often have porches on stone or brick piers, steps that have been rebuilt several times and walks that heave. We rebuild piers, repoint old masonry and replace steps with ones that match the age and style of the house.
Before you call
- Measure from the door threshold to the ground. It tells us how many steps you need.
- Note whether the stoop has pulled away from the house.
- Decide whether you want a roof over the entry now or later.
- Check whether the township needs a permit for the porch.
Walks and driveways
A new entry often prompts a new walkway to the driveway. We match materials so the steps and walk read as one design.
