Chester Township is the rural municipality that surrounds the small Chester Borough. The two are separate towns, and this page covers the township.
The township is known for its farms, pick your own orchards and horse properties, with homes spread out across rolling Highlands countryside. Houses range from old farmhouses to large custom homes built in recent decades, usually on lots of several acres. The soil is rocky, the ground rises and falls, and long private driveways are normal. With that much space, outdoor projects tend to be bigger and more ambitious than in towns to the east.
Terraces and patios with a view
On open, rolling lots, a patio is often the place to take in the view. When the house sits above the yard, we build raised terraces on a retaining wall, finished in pavers, stamped concrete or stone, with wide steps down to the lawn. Planning drainage at this stage keeps water from running under the terrace or down the wall face.
Complete backyard plans

Many owners here plan the whole yard at once: a dining patio, a fire pit or stone outdoor fireplace, a pool deck and paths that tie them to the house and driveway. Our hardscaping work covers each piece, and laying it out together means grades and drainage only get set once.
Pools on rural lots
Pool coping and decks see a lot of sun and freeze thaw. We build decks in pavers or stamped concrete and replace worn coping, often adding a low stone wall to separate the pool area from open lawn or pasture.
Driveways and stone walls
Long gravel or asphalt driveways are standard. We rebuild them on a stronger base, add a paved apron at the garage or road, and build fieldstone style walls or pillars at the entrance.
Before the first shovel
- Rock. Ledge and boulders are common, so expect some adjustments once digging starts.
- Wells and septic. Most rural homes have both, and we keep equipment clear of them.
- Highlands rules. Some properties fall under Highlands or stream buffer rules. Check early.
- Distance. Large lots mean longer material runs, so we plan staging areas up front.
