Long Hill Township sits in the southern corner of Morris County, bounded by the Great Swamp on one side and the Passaic River on the other. It is made up of several village areas, mainly Millington, Stirling and Gillette, each with older homes clustered near its center and rail station and later subdivisions spreading out from there. Houses range from early twentieth century farmhouses and bungalows to postwar capes and colonials. Some ground near the river and the swamp is low and wet, while other parts of the township rise toward the hills.
Stoops and porches on village homes
Many older Long Hill houses face the street with a front porch or a small stoop. Over the years, porches built on block or brick bases settle, and their steps crack or pull away. We rebuild the masonry under the porch, pour new floors or set bluestone, and rebuild the front steps to match. Since we also do porch framing and roofing, the structure above can be rebuilt at the same time.
Brick and block repair

Brick stoops, block foundations and old chimneys all wear out at the joints first. Our masonry repair covers relaying loose brick, replacing broken block and repointing. Fixing small failures early keeps water from getting deeper into the wall.
Foundations on wet ground
In lower parts of the township, foundations take on moisture and can crack or shift. We repair cracked and bowing walls, rebuild damaged sections and pour new footings for additions, and we look at grading and gutters so the problem does not return.
Walks and driveways
A new walkway from the driveway to the front stoop, in pavers, bluestone or concrete, is a simple upgrade that improves safety. We also replace worn driveways and add aprons where they meet the road.
Before work begins
- Flood areas. Lots near the Passaic may be subject to flood zone rules.
- Wetland edges. Properties bordering the Great Swamp may have buffer rules.
- Township approval. Porches, steps and foundations often need a permit.
