Randolph is a hilly, wooded township in the western part of Morris County. Much of its housing dates from the later decades of the twentieth century, with colonials common on lots that are larger than in the older towns to the east. That extra space, together with rolling ground and mature trees, makes Randolph a natural fit for complete backyard projects instead of a single small patio.
Designing the whole backyard
The best outdoor spaces are planned as one layout: where you eat, where you sit by the fire, how you get from the kitchen door to the lawn and the pool. Our hardscaping projects here typically combine a large paver or stone patio, seating walls, a walkway to the driveway and lighting along steps and borders. We set the grades and drainage for the full design at the start, even if you build it in phases.
Fire features
A stone outdoor fireplace makes a strong focal point, while a round fire pit is more casual and easier to fit into a corner of the patio. We build fire pits and outdoor fireplaces in natural stone or veneer, on proper footings, and place them with wind, sight lines and nearby trees in mind.
Pool coping and decks

Pools in Randolph are surrounded by trees and see plenty of leaves, sun and frost. Coping stones loosen and decks crack or settle over time. We replace coping in stone or pavers and build decks in pavers or stamped concrete, sloped to carry water away from the pool.
Walls and long driveways
Sloped yards often need a retaining wall to create a flat patio or lawn, and we build them with drainage stone and solid bases. Longer driveways, common on bigger lots, see heavy plowing and frost. We replace them in asphalt, concrete or pavers, with a base built for the soil.
Front entries for larger homes
Bigger homes deserve an entry to match. We build front landings and steps in stacked stone or brick with bluestone treads, and lay paver or bluestone walks from the driveway. Lighting set into the steps or walls makes the path safe after dark and shows off the stonework.
Natural stone, tumbled pavers and large format slabs each give a different feel, and wooded settings tend to suit warmer, earthy tones. We bring samples so you can compare them outside, next to the house.
Before you plan
- Township review. Walls, pool work and larger patios can need approval, and some need engineering.
- Rock in the ground. Ledge and boulders turn up in parts of town. We look for signs during the estimate.
- Phasing. If budget is a concern, a complete plan built over two seasons avoids redoing work.
