East Hanover is a suburban township in the southeastern part of Morris County, with the Passaic River along much of its eastern edge. Most neighborhoods were built after the Second World War, so ranches, capes and split levels are common, and over the years many have been expanded or replaced with larger custom homes. Lots are a comfortable suburban size and, compared with the hill towns to the west, the ground is notably flat.

Getting water off a flat lot

Flat land is easy to build on but harder to drain. On a sloped lot, water finds its own way downhill; on a level one, it can sit against the foundation or on a new patio unless the grades are set on purpose. On every East Hanover job we plan where the water goes before we lay a single paver, using slight pitch, yard drains or a dry well when the lot needs one.

Pool decks and backyard living

In-ground pools are a big part of backyard life here, and decks and coping eventually crack or lift. Our pool masonry work covers new coping, paver and stamped concrete decks, and low walls or steps around the pool area. Many owners add a patio with a fire pit or outdoor kitchen space next to the pool, connected by the same paver so it reads as one space.

Driveways with curb appeal

Wide fronts and two car garages make the driveway one of the largest surfaces on the property. A paver driveway with a contrasting border can transform the front of a split level or new colonial. Concrete and asphalt remain good options when budget matters more than pattern, and we explain the tradeoffs during the estimate.

Front steps on split levels and ranches

Split levels often have short front steps and a landing that settle unevenly. We rebuild them on proper footings and finish in stone veneer or brick with bluestone treads.

Useful points before you start

  • Pool area rules. Pool decks and nearby structures can have setback and fencing requirements. Ask the township before finalizing.
  • River areas. Lots near the Passaic River may be in a flood zone.
  • Underground lines. Irrigation, pool plumbing and electric need marking before digging.

East Hanover borders Hanover Township and Florham Park, and we serve all of Morris County. Ask for a free estimate to plan your pool deck, patio or driveway.

FAQ

East Hanover, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Is East Hanover the same as Hanover Township?

No. East Hanover is its own township with its own building department. Hanover Township, which includes Whippany and Cedar Knolls, is a separate town next door.

Our yard is perfectly flat. Why does the patio need any slope?

Without a slight pitch, rain sits on the surface and can run back toward the house. We build in a gentle fall away from the foundation, so small that you will not notice it when you walk on it.

Should our pool deck be pavers or stamped concrete?

Both work well. Pavers can be lifted and reset if a section settles, while stamped concrete gives a continuous surface with fewer joints. We bring samples of each to the estimate.
