Morris Township is the large, largely residential municipality that encircles Morristown. It includes Convent Station and a number of established neighborhoods with tree lined streets and substantial homes. Some properties are grand older estates and early twentieth century houses in brick, stone and stucco. Others are mid century colonials and ranches on comfortable lots, with newer homes scattered throughout. The land rolls gently in places and rises into wooded hills in others, so a single street can have both a flat lawn and a steep side yard.
Front entries with presence
On a substantial house, the front entry carries a lot of weight. Stone veneer or brick steps with a generous bluestone landing, wide treads and a walk that meets the driveway cleanly can change how the whole home reads from the street. Our stone masonry and brickwork covers new entries as well as resetting and refacing old ones.
Terraces off the back of the house

Many township homes have French doors or a family room that steps down to the yard. A terrace at that level, with wide steps, low walls and a lawn beyond, makes the back of the house feel finished. We build patios and walkways in bluestone, natural stone or pavers, and pitch each one so water moves away from the foundation. Where the yard drops off, a seating wall doubles as a retaining wall.
Restoring older masonry
Older homes in the township often have original stone foundations, brick chimneys and garden walls that need care rather than replacement. We repoint with compatible mortar, rebuild chimney crowns and caps, and replace damaged units with close matches. Our historic masonry restoration work is about keeping the character while fixing the problem.
What to think about first
- Which town you are in. Morris Township and Morristown have separate permit offices.
- Trees. Old shade trees add value. We route new work around major roots when we can.
- Matching materials. We bring samples so new stone or brick sits well with the old.
- Wet areas. Low spots near streams or wetlands may come with extra rules.
