Montville Township stretches across a wide swath of northeastern Morris County and takes in three distinct areas: Montville itself, Towaco to the north, and Pine Brook to the south. The terrain changes as you move through it. Towaco and the northern neighborhoods are hilly and wooded, with homes set on slopes and outcrops of rock. Pine Brook sits on flatter, lower ground toward the Passaic River basin. Housing is a mix of older farmhouses and capes, mid century split levels and ranches, and a large share of newer center hall colonials on generous lots.

Backyards built for gathering

Montville’s larger lots invite a full backyard rather than a small slab. Homeowners often ask for a paver patio with separate zones for dining and lounging, a seating wall, and a path to the pool or the driveway. On hilly Towaco properties, that usually means a wall or two to create flat space. On flatter Pine Brook lots, it is more about pitch and drainage so rain does not sit on the surface.

A fireplace as the centerpiece

A stone outdoor fireplace or fire pit stretches the patio season into fall. We build each fire feature on its own solid footing, line it with fire rated materials, and face it in stone or veneer to match the house. Placement matters, so we think about wind, sight lines from the kitchen, and distance from the house and trees.

Entries and driveways

Bigger colonials look best with an entry that matches their scale: wide steps with bluestone treads, a stone veneer landing and a walkway that leads cleanly to the driveway. Paver and concrete driveways are both popular, and paver aprons or borders are a common way to dress up an asphalt drive.

Water on the low side

Where lots sit lower, groundwater and heavy rain can find their way into basements. If you are already planning hardscape, it is a good time to address basement waterproofing and grading together. Flood zone rules may apply to some lower properties, and we help you check.

FAQ

Montville, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Do you work in Towaco and Pine Brook as well as Montville itself?

Yes. Towaco and Pine Brook are sections of Montville Township, and permits for all of them go through the same township building department.

Is a paver driveway worth it over asphalt on a colonial in Montville?

Pavers cost more up front, but they hold up well, individual pieces can be lifted and reset, and they suit larger colonials. Asphalt is the budget choice and is quicker to install. We can price both.

Our lot is on lower ground and the basement gets damp. Can you help with that and the patio together?

Yes. We look at grading, downspouts and the foundation first, then pitch the new patio away from the house. If the basement needs it, we also handle waterproofing so the two projects work together.
