Roxbury Township sits in western Morris County and is made up of several distinct communities: Succasunna, Kenvil, Ledgewood and Landing, each with its own character. Succasunna and Kenvil are largely suburban, with neighborhoods of ranches, split levels, bi levels and colonials built from the 1950s onward on fairly level, regular lots. Ledgewood mixes homes with the township’s commercial corridor. Landing reaches up to the southern end of Lake Hopatcong, where lots get hillier and homes sit closer to the water. That variety means a pool deck in Succasunna and a wall in Landing are very different jobs.
Backyard pools and the surfaces around them

Inground pools are common in Roxbury’s suburban neighborhoods, and many of their decks date to when the pool went in. Settling slabs, cracked concrete and loose coping are typical. We remove the old deck, rebuild the base, and install pavers or stamped concrete with new coping through our pool masonry service.
Patios that run the length of the yard
On level lots, a long paver patio along the back or side of the house can tie together the back door, the pool gate and the driveway. We set a compacted base, a border to lock the edge, and a pitch that keeps water off the foundation.
Steps, porches and driveways
Bi levels and raised ranches put the front door partway up the wall, so the front steps and landing are prominent. We rebuild concrete steps with stone or brick facing and bluestone treads, and we can frame and roof a small porch over the entry. Driveway replacements in asphalt, concrete or pavers round out many front yard projects.
Lake side of town
In Landing and other hilly areas, walls and drainage come first. We build retaining walls to hold back slopes and create flat space, and we plan stairs with landings for long climbs.
Tips for Roxbury homeowners
- Schedule pool deck work well before the season you want to swim.
- Mark irrigation lines and invisible fences before excavation.
- Expect rock on the hillier lots near the lake.
