Bergenfield grew quickly in the decades after the Second World War, and much of the housing reflects that: Cape Cods, colonials, ranches and split-levels lined up on regular blocks with modest front yards and driveways along the side of the house. The ground is mostly level and the neighborhoods are dense, so projects tend to be practical and close to the street.
Concrete that has done its time
A lot of the original concrete in town is now more than half a century old. Front steps were usually poured in one piece against the house, and over time they settle, crack at the corners or tip away from the foundation. Driveways laid on thin bases develop long cracks and sunken sections where cars turn.
Our concrete steps are built on footings that go below the frost line, with consistent riser heights and a landing sized for the door. For driveways we remove the old slab, rebuild the base and pour new concrete or asphalt, with control joints placed so any cracking stays neat.
Signs it is time to call
- Steps that rock, pull away from the house or have a gap at the top
- Driveway sections that hold puddles after rain
- Sidewalk squares lifted by street tree roots
- Walkways with spalled, flaking surfaces from salt and freeze-thaw
Front walks and small upgrades

On compact Bergenfield lots, the front walk and steps make up most of what people see from the street. A new broom-finished walk, a stamped border or a short run of pavers can change the look of the whole house without a large budget. Where concrete is only worn on the surface and still sound underneath, concrete repair and resurfacing can be a good middle option.
Brick details
Many homes here mix siding with brick on the front, on chimneys or on the steps. Those joints wear out, and we repoint them so water does not get behind the face.
Working on a tight block
Driveways sit close together and street parking is limited, so we plan the order of work so you are not without a driveway longer than necessary, and we keep the sidewalk passable.
We serve Bergenfield and the rest of Bergen County, including neighboring Dumont and Teaneck. Ask for a free estimate and we will come measure.
