Hasbrouck Heights lives up to its name. The borough sits on high ground above the Meadowlands, with Teterboro Airport just below it to the east. Streets run up to the center of town and fall away on every side, so many homes sit above or below the road. The housing is older and varied: colonials, Cape Cods, some Victorians and foursquares, and later homes filling in, mostly on modest lots.
Driveways on a grade
A sloped driveway has to handle water and traction as well as cars. Concrete poured too thin cracks across the slope, asphalt washes out at the edges and water heads straight for the garage door. We rebuild driveways with a compacted base sized for the slope, add drains where water collects and shape the apron so the transition to the street is smooth.
Entries that climb

When a house sits above the sidewalk, the walk and steps become a small climb. We break long runs into flights with landings, keep risers even and add railings for safety. Brick steps with bluestone caps, paired with a brick or paver entry walk, suit the older houses in town.
Low walls along the front
On sloping blocks a short wall often holds the front lawn above the sidewalk. Old walls lean or crack where water builds up behind them. We rebuild them with drainage stone and a pipe behind the wall so they stay straight.
Brick and chimneys
Older homes on the hill usually have brick chimneys, brick steps or brick fronts. What we look for during an estimate:
- Gaps or soft mortar in the joints
- Spalled or shifted brick near the top of the chimney
- Rust stains from old railings anchored into the steps
- Cracks where steps meet the foundation
Repointing and partial rebuilds keep that brickwork sound.
