Elmwood Park sits in southwest Bergen County where the Passaic River forms part of its border. Most of the borough was built in the postwar boom, so the typical home is a Cape Cod, ranch or split-level on a modest, level lot with a driveway to one side and a concrete front porch or stoop. Those houses are solid, but the original concrete around them is now old enough to need replacing.
Driveways first
A driveway gets more abuse than any other part of the property: cars, plows, salt and the occasional moving truck. Original slabs in town were often poured thin on whatever soil was there. We remove the old surface, dig out soft material, compact a new stone base and pour or pave a new driveway pitched toward the street.

Front porches and steps
Many Elmwood Park homes have a low concrete porch across part of the front. Over time these slabs crack, sink at the outer edge or tilt back toward the house, sending water to the foundation. We replace them with new slabs and concrete steps, add railings and can face the edges in brick or stone.
Living near the river
Not every street is close to the water, but parts of town near the Passaic are low lying and some parcels are in mapped flood areas. Where that applies, flood zone rules may affect new work. Even away from the river, the flat ground means water does not always run off quickly.
Things we check on every Elmwood Park job:
- Where the downspouts discharge and whether they need extensions
- Which way the lawn slopes next to the foundation
- Whether the new driveway or patio will change how water moves
- Any existing cracks or dampness in the basement walls
When water is already getting in, our basement waterproofing work addresses it at the source.
Adding curb appeal
Once the essentials are fixed, a paver walkway from the driveway to the door or a stamped concrete border can make a simple house look finished.
