Patios, Driveways and Dry Basements in Saddle Brook, NJ

Saddle Brook is a township of postwar capes and ranches, crossed by major highways and edged by the Saddle River. We build patios and driveways that shed water and help keep basements dry.

Saddle Brook is a busy township in southwest Bergen crossed by Interstate 80 and the Garden State Parkway, yet most of its streets are quiet blocks of single family homes. The housing is largely mid-century: Cape Cods, ranches and some split-levels on modest, flat lots. The Saddle River runs along the township’s eastern side, and its floods are part of local memory. That combination, small flat yards and water nearby, drives most of what we build here.

Backyard patios with drainage built in

A cape’s backyard often has a back door a few feet above grade and a lawn that turns soft after rain. A paver patio solves both problems when it is planned with care. We set the patio low enough to step onto easily, pitch it away from the foundation and, where water pools, add a drain or a gravel trench. A charcoal border or inlay dresses up a simple gray field without making a small yard feel busy.

Replacing tired driveways

Many Saddle Brook driveways are original single-car slabs. Common reasons to replace them:

  1. cracks that run edge to edge and keep widening
  2. a slab that has sunk toward the garage or the house
  3. a broken apron where it meets the street
  4. the need for one more parking space

We pour concrete driveways on a compacted base and can talk through asphalt or pavers too. Widening and curb changes may need approval from the township.

Basements near the river

Water in a Saddle Brook basement can come from several directions: surface runoff, rising groundwater during wet seasons or cracks in an aging foundation. We check gutters and grading first, then the walls. When a wall has cracked or bowed, our foundation repair work addresses the structure before any waterproofing goes on.

Steps and stoops

Front steps on postwar homes are usually short concrete sets that have settled or flaked from salt. We rebuild them with stone veneer or brick faces and new railings, front or back.

Rear stoops matter as much as front ones on a cape, since the back door is often the one the family actually uses. A stone-faced stoop with a railing and a landing big enough to set down groceries makes everyday life easier.

FAQ

Saddle Brook, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Can a patio help with water problems in my Saddle Brook yard?

A well-planned one can. Pitching the patio away from the house and adding a drain where water collects can actually improve drainage. A badly pitched patio does the opposite, so we set grades before any pavers go down.

My cape has a small back door with no landing. What are my options?

A paver patio with a step or a small stoop at the door is a common fix. It makes the door safer to use and gives you a place for a grill or a table.

Do you work on homes that flooded during past Saddle River storms?

Yes. After flooding we look at foundation cracks, failed mortar and grading, and we can recommend waterproofing or foundation repair based on what we find. Flood zone rules may apply to the work.
