South Hackensack is one of the more unusual municipalities in Bergen County. Much of its land is given over to industry, warehouses and highway frontage near Route 46 and Interstate 80, and its residential streets are small pockets of single family and two-family homes tucked between them. The ground is flat and low, part of the broad plain that runs toward the Hackensack River and the Meadowlands. Homeowners here tend to want sturdy, practical work rather than showpieces.
Concrete that sees hard use
Walkways, stoops and driveways in South Hackensack get salt, puddles that freeze and, on some blocks, heavy vehicles turning nearby. When the damage is shallow, concrete repair and resurfacing can restore a slab for a fraction of the disruption of a full tear-out. When slabs have sunk or broken through, we remove them and pour new concrete on a compacted base with the right pitch.
New walks and porch slabs

On flat lots, water has nowhere to go unless the hardscape sends it there. A new front walk or porch slab should fall slightly away from the house so rain does not sit against the foundation. Broom-finished concrete stays grippy in wet weather and keeps maintenance simple.
Steps and small masonry fixes
Front and rear concrete steps on older homes here are often settling, chipped at the nosing or separated from the house. We rebuild them on footings and add brick or stone facing if you want a dressier look. Smaller jobs matter too:
- loose or rusted railing posts reset in fresh concrete
- broken step corners rebuilt
- cracked block foundation walls sealed
- brick chimney caps and crowns repaired
Because most homes here are older and modest in size, the best value usually comes from fixing the pieces that affect safety and water first: a stoop that wobbles, a walk that traps ice, a driveway that drains toward the house. Cosmetic upgrades can follow later.
Water on low ground
Flat terrain and nearby waterways mean basements can be damp. We look for open cracks and use crack repair where water is getting through the wall. Flood zone rules may apply to properties in lower areas.
