Woodcliff Lake is a residential borough in the Pascack Valley, named for the reservoir that sits in the middle of town. The landscape is wooded and rolling, and many homes sit on lots with real grade changes, some climbing from the street and others falling toward the back. Housing ranges from mid-century colonials and ranches to larger custom homes built in later decades. Yards are generous, pools are common and stonework fits naturally with the setting.
Pool decks and coping

Older pool decks in town are often plain concrete with cracked sections and loose coping. We rebuild them in stamped concrete with a stone pattern or in pavers, and we reset or replace the coping. Our pool masonry also includes the walls, steps and planters around the pool so the whole area feels finished.
Managing the slope
Rolling ground is beautiful but hard on hardscape. Water flows across lawns and patios, soil creeps and older walls lean. Well-built retaining walls create level terraces and hold back soil, and the drainage behind them is what keeps them standing. On some lots, a series of low walls looks better and performs better than one tall one.
Stone at the front door
Many homes here benefit from an entry that matches the wooded setting. Stacked stone veneer on steps, porches or the foundation, with a bluestone landing, gives a colonial or contemporary home a solid, natural look.
Things we look at on a Woodcliff Lake visit
- how runoff moves from the street, the neighbors and the roof
- tree roots near planned footings and walls
- the condition of existing walls and steps
- where a larger patio or deck would sit relative to the pool and house
- whether the borough needs to review added hard surface or grading
Shade from tall trees keeps some patios and pool decks damp for long stretches. Choosing a textured finish and leaving a little extra pitch helps those surfaces dry faster and stay safer underfoot.
Driveways and walks
Long, sloped driveways are common, and pavers handle them well on the right base. For walks, curves that follow the land usually feel more natural than straight lines.
