Ridgefield Park is one of the few New Jersey municipalities organized as a village, and it feels like one: a walkable grid of older homes, many of them two-family houses and early twentieth century singles, set on narrow lots. The Hackensack River runs along one edge of town and Overpeck Creek along another, so a lot of the village sits on low, flat ground. Both facts shape the masonry and concrete work we do here.
Driveways where every inch counts
On a forty-foot lot, the driveway is often the only open hardscape the house has, and it carries cars, trash cans and foot traffic every day. When the slab cracks or heaves, it also tends to pitch water back toward the foundation. We break out failed sections and pour new concrete driveways with a proper stone base and a slope that carries runoff to the street.
Shared driveways are common on older blocks. We can replace one side cleanly, but we always look at how the grade meets the neighbor’s half.
Stoops facing the sidewalk

Front steps in the village usually land right at the public sidewalk, so they get salt, plows and heavy use. Older brick stoops lose mortar at the treads first, then the risers loosen. We rebuild them on a solid footing in brick or poured concrete steps, with bluestone treads and railings where they help.
On blocks this close together, we also plan the work around the neighbors: where the dumpster goes, how the concrete truck reaches the back of a narrow lot, and how to keep a shared walkway open while the new slab cures. A little planning keeps a tight village street friendly.
Low ground and damp basements
Close to the water, a basement that seeps after a heavy rain is a familiar complaint. Before suggesting basement waterproofing, we look at simpler causes first:
- downspouts that dump next to the foundation
- a driveway or walkway that slopes toward the house
- open cracks or failed parging on the foundation wall
- window wells without drainage
Flood zone rules may apply to some properties near the creek and river, and we check before planning anything below grade.
Around the village
Ridgefield Park borders Bogota and sits across the river from Little Ferry, and we work throughout Bergen County.
