Palisades Park is a small, densely built borough in southeastern Bergen County, set on the slope west of the Palisades with Leonia, Fort Lee and Ridgefield nearby. Broad Avenue, with its many Korean restaurants and shops, is the busy commercial spine. Off the avenue, residential blocks mix older single family houses with newer two-family townhomes that replaced them. Lots are narrow and deep, and many streets have a grade to them.
Front steps on narrow facades
On a two-family townhouse, the front is often a pair of entries side by side, or a set of steps up to a raised first floor over a garage. On older houses, it is a concrete or brick stoop near the sidewalk. Either way, the steps are the most used and most visible masonry on the property. We build concrete steps on proper footings and finish them in stone veneer, brick or concrete with bluestone treads and modern railings.
Stone veneer for a cleaner front

Stacked stone veneer on porches, steps and short front walls gives a crisp look that suits newer construction. It also hides plain block or a stained foundation on an older home. Our stone masonry and brickwork team sets veneer over a properly prepared base so it stays bonded through winter.
Side yards and small front walls
With houses close together, side yards often become the main path to the backyard and the trash area. Paver or stamped concrete side walks turn a muddy strip into a clean, durable route. On sloped streets, a low front wall holds back the lawn and defines the property line.
Tips for dense blocks
- Coordinate access with neighbors, especially for side yard work.
- Keep the sidewalk open and safe during construction.
- Expect the borough to review steps, walls and curb work.
- Plan drainage so water from two roofs does not pool in one side yard.
