Driveways, Steps and Concrete Work in Aberdeen, NJ

Aberdeen Township runs from Raritan Bay neighborhoods to rows of mid-century ranches and split-levels. Much of that original concrete is now due, and we replace it with work built to last.

New broom-finished concrete front walkway to a brick front stoop

Aberdeen is a township on the Raritan Bay, with bayfront sections such as Cliffwood Beach on one side and large mid-century subdivisions inland. A lot of its housing went up in the same few decades: ranches, split-levels and bi-levels on regular suburban lots with a poured driveway, a front stoop and a concrete walk. Those pieces were all built around the same time, so they tend to wear out around the same time too.

Driveways that have reached the end

Original driveways in town are often cracked into sections, sunk near the garage or lifted by tree roots at the street. Patching a slab like that rarely holds. We remove it, rebuild the base with compacted stone, and pour new concrete or asphalt driveways pitched to send water to the street instead of the garage. A stamped walkway or a paver border can dress up a plain slab without a big jump in scope.

Stoops and walks on split-levels

Split-levels and bi-levels put the front door a few steps up, and that small stoop takes a lot of weather. Common problems are treads pulling away from the house, rusted railing anchors and a gap opening between the stoop and the foundation. We rebuild concrete steps on proper footings and can face them in brick or stone. A new walkway from the driveway usually comes along with it.

Basements near the bay

Homes in the lower, bay side areas of Aberdeen deal with a higher water table, and heavy storms push that water toward foundations. Damp block walls, efflorescence and seepage at the floor joint are signs to look into. Our foundation and waterproofing work starts with grading, gutters and crack sealing, then moves to interior or exterior systems if the problem needs them.

A few things to plan for

  • Matching neighbors. In blocks of similar homes, a new driveway or walk looks best when the layout respects the street.
  • Township approvals. Driveway widening, aprons and new walls may need sign off from the township.
  • One crew, one schedule. Doing the stoop, walk and driveway together saves a second round of demolition.

We also work in nearby Matawan, Keyport and Hazlet, and across the rest of Monmouth County.

FAQ

Aberdeen, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Our split-level still has its original driveway. Repair or replace?

If the slab is heaved, broken into pieces or sinking at the garage, replacement on a new compacted base is usually the better value. Scattered hairline cracks on a slab that is still level can often be sealed instead. We tell you which one we see.

We live near the bay in Cliffwood Beach. Does that change anything?

It can. Low lying lots near the water may fall in a flood zone, and groundwater sits higher there. We plan grading, drainage and any basement work with that in mind and check township rules before we design.

Can you widen our driveway for a second car?

Often, yes. Widening a driveway or apron can need township approval and sometimes touches the curb. We confirm what applies and handle the paperwork.
