Freehold Township is a large, mostly suburban township that wraps around Freehold Borough. Much of it was built out as planned neighborhoods of colonials and split-levels, many with two car garages, a front stoop, a builder’s concrete walk and a backyard graded by machine. This page covers the township. If you live in the borough, see our Freehold page, which also covers backyard fire features and pool areas across both towns.

Upgrading the builder’s front walk

Many township homes came with a narrow concrete walk and a small stoop. After a few decades those slabs settle, crack and look out of scale with the house. Replacing them with a wider paver or bluestone walk, a larger landing and steps faced in stone is one of the most common upgrades we do here. Our walkway work includes the base and edging so the new walk stays level.

Driveways in planned neighborhoods

Original driveways in older subdivisions are often worn, stained and cracked at the joints. We replace them with new concrete, asphalt or pavers on a fresh base. Some homeowners add a paver border or a widened apron. Neighborhood associations sometimes have guidelines on color and material, so we check before choosing.

Walls on graded lots

When developments were built, many yards were cut and filled to create level pads, leaving slopes at the edges held by small landscape walls. Those walls were not always built on a solid base, and some now lean or bulge. We rebuild retaining walls with a compacted footing, drainage stone and capped block. A new wall can also level part of a sloped yard for a patio.

Before planning your project

  • Township or borough? Confirm which building department covers your lot.
  • Association rules. Read your HOA guidelines for materials and colors.
  • Combine the front. Walk, stoop and driveway together usually look most consistent.
  • Spring demand. Winter estimates give you more scheduling choice.

We also work in neighboring Manalapan, Howell, Marlboro and Colts Neck, and across Monmouth County.

FAQ

Freehold Township, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Is this page for Freehold Township or Freehold Borough?

This page covers Freehold Township, the larger suburban township. Freehold Borough is a separate town with its own building department. We work in both and confirm which office covers your address.

Our HOA has rules about driveways and walks. Can you work with that?

Yes. Bring us your association's guidelines and we will choose materials and colors that fit them. Some associations want to see the plan before work starts, and we can provide the details they ask for.

The builder's landscape wall in our backyard is leaning. Can you fix it?

Usually we take the failing section down, rebuild the base, add drainage behind it and relay the block. If the wall is tall or supports a structure, we look at whether it needs an engineered design.
