Loch Arbour is one of the smallest municipalities in New Jersey, a residential village of a handful of streets between Allenhurst and Ocean Township, with the ocean on one side and lake water close by. The homes are mostly single family, many of them substantial older houses set close together on modest lots. In a place this compact, curb appeal is shared. Your front steps and walkway are part of a streetscape everyone sees on their way to the beach.
Why the front of the house gets most of the attention
On many Loch Arbour properties the backyard is small, and the front entry carries the look of the home. That makes concrete steps and entry landings the projects that matter most. We rebuild tired steps on a proper footing and finish them in brick, stone veneer or clean poured concrete, often with bluestone treads and railings sized to the doorway.
Garden walls, piers and the street edge

Low front walls, brick piers and short runs of railing define many lots here. When salt air and freeze cycles loosen the mortar, caps shift and bricks start to rock. Our stone masonry and brickwork crew resets caps, rebuilds failing sections and repoints the rest so the wall reads as one piece again. Where an older wall is past saving, we rebuild it on a new footing with a veneer that suits the house.
Working in a village this small
A few practical points shape how we plan here:
- Access. Narrow frontage means careful delivery timing and compact equipment.
- Neighbors. Homes sit close, so we keep cutting dust and noise contained.
- Local approval. The village runs its own review, and flood zone rules may apply on lower lots near the water.
- Matching materials. Older facades call for mortar and stone choices that blend in.
Walkways and side yards
Side yards between houses are often the only route to the back door or the outdoor shower. A narrow paver or bluestone path with good edge restraint keeps sand and mud off the shoes and stays level on sandy ground. We set the base deeper than an inland job would need and pitch it so rain runs toward the lawn, not the foundation.
