Spring Lake is a shore borough known for its large Victorian, shingle style and colonial revival homes, many built a century or more ago, set on wide, tree lined streets near the ocean and the lake the town is named for. Deep wraparound porches, brick chimneys, stone foundations and old brick walks are part of the look. Most homeowners here are not trying to modernize the exterior. They want the old work repaired properly so it lasts another few decades without losing its character.
Chimneys and old brick
Tall brick chimneys on large older homes take a beating from wind, salt air and freeze and thaw. Crowns crack, top courses loosen and mortar washes out. We rebuild chimney tops, replace crowns and repoint with mortar matched to the original. Our historic masonry restoration approach replaces only what is damaged and reuses sound brick wherever we can.
Porches as part of the house

A Spring Lake porch is a room, not an afterthought. When its masonry piers settle or the steps pull away, the floor and roof follow. Because we handle porch framing and roofing as well as masonry, we can rebuild piers, steps, framing and roof in one sequence so everything lines up.
Walks and garden paths
Old brick walks and bluestone paths heave over tree roots and sink in soft spots. We lift and reset existing material on a new base where it is salvageable, and match new brick or bluestone where it is not. Herringbone and running bond patterns can be reproduced so a repair blends with the rest of the walk.
Care points for older homes
- Soft mortar is often the right choice on older brick.
- Original materials are worth saving when they are sound.
- Matching treads, brick color and joint style takes samples.
- Borough review may apply to visible exterior changes.
We also serve Spring Lake Heights, Sea Girt and all of Monmouth County.
