Lake Como is one of the smallest boroughs in Monmouth County, set between Belmar and Spring Lake with the lake of the same name along its southern edge. The housing is mostly cottages, bungalows and modest two-story homes on narrow lots, many of them updated over the years from summer places into year-round houses. Projects here are usually small in footprint, but they make a big difference in how a home works day to day.
Converting cottages for year-round living
When an older summer cottage becomes a full-time home, the outside often needs to catch up. A loose wood back step becomes a masonry stoop, a dirt path becomes a real walkway, and a patch of lawn becomes a patio. We build concrete steps and small stoops on proper footings, with railings where they are needed, so entries are safe in every season.
Side walks and narrow paths
On narrow lots the side yard is the hallway of the property. A level walk in pavers or concrete keeps feet out of the mud and sand and gives a clear route for bikes, bins and beach gear. We pitch walks to move water toward the street, not toward the neighbor’s foundation.
Patios sized to the lot

Backyards in Lake Como are short, so a patio has to be planned to the inch. A paver patio with a border inlay makes a small space look finished, and a deeper base on sandy ground keeps it flat. We plan around fences, sheds and AC units.
Small project tips
- Group the work. A stoop, walk and patio in one visit saves set up time.
- Think about water first. Grades and downspouts should send water away.
- Mind the neighbors. Narrow lots mean careful staging and cleanup.
- Book off season. Fall and winter estimates help with spring scheduling.
Lake Como sits between Belmar and Spring Lake, next to Wall Township. More towns are listed on our Monmouth County page.
