Pool Decks, Patios and Driveways in Howell, NJ

Howell is a big township with roomy lots and sandy ground. Pools, patios and driveways are popular here, and in this soil the base under them matters as much as the surface.

Howell is one of the largest townships in Monmouth County, and it covers a lot of variety: wooded lots, older homes on country roads, and neighborhoods of colonials and bi-levels built over several decades. Lots tend to be roomier than closer to the shore, and in-ground pools are common. Underneath much of the township is sandy soil, which drains well but shifts easily if a base is not built properly.

Building on sand

The most common problem we see in Howell is not the surface material but what is under it. Patios and walks laid on a thin layer of stone over loose sand settle, and the edges creep outward. We excavate deeper, compact stone in lifts and install firm edge restraint, so a paver patio holds its shape for the long run. Downspouts are redirected so they do not wash out the base.

Pool decks

Pools are a big part of summer here, and older decks often show cracked concrete, lifted coping or sunken corners. Our pool masonry work rebuilds decks in stamped concrete or pavers, resets or replaces coping and pitches everything away from the water. A patio and seating area can be added next to the pool in the same project.

Long driveways

Many Howell properties have longer driveways than suburban lots closer to the coast. We install concrete, asphalt and paver driveways on a base suited to sandy ground, and we can widen a drive or add a turnaround if the lot allows and the township approves.

Fire pits and outdoor rooms

With room to spread out, many owners add a fire pit or outdoor fireplace on its own patio away from the pool. We plan placement with safe clearances from trees and structures.

Before you build

  • Soil check. We look at how the ground drains when we visit.
  • Downspouts. Note where roof water goes now.
  • Pool rules. Decks, fences and patios near a pool may need township approval.
  • Phasing. Big yards can be built in stages.

Howell surrounds Farmingdale and borders Freehold Township, Wall and Colts Neck. The full Monmouth County list is on our county page.

FAQ

Howell, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Why did our old patio sink in some spots?

In sandy soil, a thin base or poor compaction lets pavers or slabs settle, especially where downspouts dump water. We rebuild with a deeper stone base compacted in layers and solid edge restraint.

Stamped concrete or pavers for a pool deck in Howell?

Both work. Stamped concrete has fewer joints and a smooth look. Pavers cost more up front but can be lifted and reset if the ground moves. We explain how each suits your yard.

Can you put a long driveway in on a wooded lot?

Yes. We clear and grade the path, build a base suited to the soil and choose a surface that fits your budget. Tree roots near the edges are planned for so they do not lift the drive later.
