Interlaken is a tiny borough wrapped by Deal Lake on much of its edge, with no commercial strip and nothing but homes and quiet streets. The houses are mostly older, from early twentieth century styles to mid-century homes, on lots with mature trees and established gardens. Some properties slope gently toward the lake. Projects here tend to be about fitting new masonry into a landscape that is already there, not starting from bare ground.
Walks through established gardens
Many Interlaken yards have planting beds along the house and paths that have shifted, cracked or been lost under ground cover. We build new walkways in bluestone, pavers or stamped concrete, routed to work with existing beds and trees. Edges are restrained so the walk does not drift into the garden.
Garden walls and lakeside slopes

Where yards fall toward Deal Lake, low walls can turn a slope into a level patio or a terraced garden. We build retaining walls in natural stone or block with drainage behind them, so water from uphill passes through instead of pushing the wall over. Older stone garden walls can often be repaired by resetting loose stones and repointing.
Entry steps with character
Front steps on older homes here are often brick or stone that has loosened over the decades. We rebuild them on new footings with bluestone treads and railings, keeping the scale and materials in line with the house and the neighborhood.
Things we keep in mind in Interlaken
- Trees and roots. Mature trees are part of the borough’s character, so we dig carefully near them.
- Lake edges. Lakefront lots may have added rules on grading and fill.
- Quiet streets. We keep deliveries and staging tidy on narrow residential roads.
- Matching materials. Stone and brick are chosen to blend with what is already there.
Interlaken is surrounded by Asbury Park, Ocean Township, Allenhurst and Loch Arbour. We work everywhere in Monmouth County.
