Wall Township is one of the larger municipalities in Monmouth County, stretching from the area around Belmar and Spring Lake Heights inland toward Howell. It has no single character. There are mid-century neighborhoods, wooded sections with larger lots, newer subdivisions and properties along the Manasquan River. Lots range from flat and sandy to gently sloped and treed. That variety means the right approach changes from street to street, but many projects here involve one thing: making a yard level enough to use.
Retaining walls and raised terraces
When a backyard drops away from the house, a retaining wall can create a flat terrace for a patio or lawn. We build walls in segmental block or stone with a compacted base, drainage stone and a pipe behind them, and build steps into the wall to connect the levels. Replacing old timber walls that have rotted out is also a common job here.

Patios and pool decks
Once the yard is level, it can hold a real outdoor space. We build paver patios, stamped concrete terraces and pool decks with coping, seating walls and fire features. Sandy soil drains well, so the main concern is a deep, compacted base and solid edging that keeps pavers from drifting.
Wooded lots and driveways
On treed inland lots, roots, shade and leaf litter affect the plan. We route walkways around large trees, choose surfaces that dry quickly in the shade and grade driveways so water does not run toward the garage. Long driveways on larger lots benefit from a firm edge to stop crumbling.
Things that vary across the township
- Lot size and slope drive whether walls or terraces are needed.
- Flood zone rules may apply on lots near the river.
- Township approval may be required for walls, aprons and pool areas.
- Tree protection should be part of the layout on wooded lots.
We also work in Spring Lake Heights, Belmar, Howell and across Monmouth County.
