Ocean Township is a suburban township just inland from the beach towns, taking in neighborhoods like Oakhurst and Wanamassa. Much of the housing went up in the decades after World War II: ranches, split levels and colonials on comfortable lots, with newer homes mixed in. The land is mostly gentle and the soil sandy. The typical project here is an update to a house that still has its original concrete, and a backyard that was never really finished.
Split level entries
A split level often has a short, wide front stoop that has cracked or settled over the years. We rebuild these as concrete steps with a larger landing, or face a new core with brick or stone and top it with bluestone. Adding a proper railing and a lighted landing makes a big difference on a house where the door sits a few feet above grade.
Turning a lawn into a patio
Many backyards here are flat and open, which makes them easy to build on. A paver patio outside the back slider, with a seat wall or fire pit at the far edge, gives the family a place to sit that does not get muddy. We keep the patio low enough to drain away from the foundation and plan the edge so mowing is simple.
Driveway and walkway replacement

Original driveways from the mid-century building boom are often thin, cracked and sunken near the garage. We replace them in concrete or pavers on a compacted stone base. Stamped concrete walkways give a patterned look for less than natural stone, and we match the pattern and color to the house.
What usually comes up during an estimate
- Driveway aprons that may need township approval.
- Downspouts that dump water right where the patio will go.
- Old buried concrete or stumps under the lawn.
- Whether the front steps and walk should be done together.
We also work in West Long Branch, Interlaken and across Monmouth County.
