Fair Haven is a residential borough along the Navesink River, made up of established neighborhoods with older colonials, capes and farmhouse style homes on tree lined streets. In recent years many of those houses have been expanded with additions and second stories, and some have been replaced entirely. When the house changes that much, the front walk, the steps and the backyard usually no longer fit.
Matching the outside to the new house

A renovated colonial with a new porch and siding can look unfinished with the old concrete stoop still out front. We build entry steps in brick, stone veneer or concrete with bluestone or light stone treads, sized to the new door and porch. Materials are picked to go with the new siding, trim and roof, not just the old house.
Higher foundations, new grades
New construction and large additions often sit higher than the original house, sometimes because of flood zone requirements closer to the river. That leaves more steps at the front and back doors and new slopes in the yard. We plan landings, step runs and low walls so the change in height feels natural and water drains away from the new foundation.
Backyards for the way families live now
Renovated kitchens tend to open to the backyard through French doors or wide sliders. A patio right outside those doors, steps down to the lawn, a walkway to a gazebo or a fire pit for evenings are typical plans. Our hardscaping work ties each piece to the house so the outdoor space feels like part of the renovation.
Coordinating with your project
- Timing. Hardscape goes in after exterior construction is done.
- Site plans. We can build from your architect’s drawings or refine them.
- Mature trees. Fair Haven’s big trees mean careful digging near roots.
- Borough review. Steps, walls and patios may need borough approval.
Fair Haven borders Rumson, Little Silver and Red Bank. Explore all of Monmouth County.
