Natural stone front yard wall with matching stone curb along the driveway

Millstone Township, in the far western part of Monmouth County, is one of the most rural towns in the county. It is a place of farmland, horse properties and wooded lots, with many custom homes built on several acres and set far back from the road. Most houses rely on wells and septic systems, and there is no dense town center. Masonry and hardscape projects here are about scale and distance: long runs of driveway, wide open yards and materials that look right in a country setting.

Driveways that start at the road

A long driveway takes a lot of weather, and the first stretch at the road sees the most stress from turning trucks and plows. We build concrete and asphalt driveways on a deep compacted base, with a crown or pitch that sheds water to the sides instead of letting it run down the middle. Stone curbing or a paver border along the edge keeps the drive from crumbling where tires drift off.

Stone walls with a country look

Natural stone suits these properties far better than a plain block wall. Low front walls at the entrance, freestanding walls along a garden and stone pillars at the end of the drive all fit the setting. Our stone masonry work uses real stone or quality veneer on proper footings so the wall does not heave in winter.

Open yards, pools and fire features

With space to spare, many owners want a full backyard plan: a patio near the house, a pool deck, a fire pit out on the lawn and paths connecting them. On open lots, wind and sun exposure matter, so we think about where shade falls in the afternoon and where a fireplace will block the breeze.

Rural site checklist

  • Locate the well and septic before we plan access routes.
  • Plan delivery paths that keep heavy trucks off lawns and soft ground.
  • Check township rules for driveways, walls and pool areas.
  • Think about runoff from barns, garages and long roof lines.

We also serve neighboring Upper Freehold, Roosevelt and the rest of Monmouth County.

FAQ

Millstone Township, NJ FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us at (973) 874-8169.

Is this the same Millstone as the borough in Somerset County?

No. This page covers Millstone Township in Monmouth County. Millstone borough is a separate, much smaller town in Somerset County with its own building department.

Our house has a well and septic system. Does that affect a patio or driveway?

It can. We need to know where the well, tank, field and lines are before we dig or bring in heavy equipment, because driving over a septic field can damage it. A survey or as-built plan helps us lay out the work safely.

Can you build just the first section of a long driveway?

Yes. Many owners start with the apron and the area near the house, where most of the turning and parking happens. We set grades so the rest can be added later without a visible seam in the drainage.
